What the numbers mean
Words are whitespace-separated units, so punctuation joined to a word stays in the same unit. Character count uses Unicode code points and includes spaces and line breaks. A visible emoji may contain several code points. Different editors and application forms can count differently.
Reading time uses 200 words per minute and rounds up. It is a rough reading estimate, not a speaking timer or a quality score. For an application limit, check the receiving form’s own count too.
