THE SHORT ANSWER

Map a job description to evidence you actually have and revise the wording truthfully. Start with the source facts, copy a ready-to-use prompt and check the result before using it.

Applies to: Text-based AI assistants. Features and results vary by service and account; these prompts do not run AI on DeskPlain.

Tailoring a resume means selecting and explaining relevant evidence. It does not mean claiming every skill in a vacancy. Ask the assistant to make a requirements-to-evidence map before rewriting a summary or bullet. Keep missing qualifications visible so you can decide how to address them honestly.

Prepare the information that matters

Use a resume copy with contact details removed if they are not needed. Gather the actual job description and your own evidence notes. Keep the employer wording distinguishable from your experience: a requirement in the posting is not a fact about you.

Use a service your organization permits for this material. A pasted excerpt is the assistant's source for this workflow; the prompt does not give it access to files, mail or meetings you have not supplied.

01 / READY-TO-COPY PROMPT

The main prompt

Copy this into your AI assistant. Add your notes where marked.

Compare my resume evidence with the job requirements below. First create a Requirement / Supported evidence / Gap table. A requirement in the vacancy is not evidence that I have that skill.
Then suggest concise revisions to the relevant resume summary or experience bullets using supported facts only. Preserve my actual job titles, level of responsibility and dates. Do not invent tools, qualifications, years, metrics or achievements.
For each suggested revision, identify the evidence behind it. Keep missing qualifications visible and do not promise an interview or hiring-system compatibility.

Work through a concrete example

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE · FICTIONAL DETAILS

Input to work from

Requirement: scheduling, records, Excel; CRM preferred. Evidence: retail availability sheet, discrepancy records, manager handoff; no CRM or supervision.

A useful output to compare against

• Maintained the team availability sheet in Excel to keep scheduling information current.
• Recorded delivery discrepancies and passed the relevant details to the manager.
• Kept shared records organized for routine team handovers.

Gap: CRM experience is not supported. Do not add it to the skills section.

This is an editorial worked example, not a captured response from a particular model. Your assistant may return different wording or make mistakes.

Why these choices matter

The wording connects retail tasks to office-support responsibilities while retaining the actual level of work. The assistant should not rename the applicant a manager or add a productivity percentage. Verify that each task description still matches what you personally did.

Review and improve the first answer

02 / REVIEW THE RESPONSE

Use this after the first answer, in the same conversation. Keep the original source available.

For every rewritten bullet, identify the exact evidence supporting it. Remove any inflated seniority, tool experience or numeric result. Suggest a truthful way to describe transferable work without claiming the missing qualification.

Ask for a specific correction when the response misses the goal. Changing the requested format can improve readability; it cannot make an unsupported fact true. Return to your source when the answer changes a number, date, responsibility or condition.

Check the result before using it

  1. Trace every skill and responsibility to your own record.
  2. Keep employer titles and dates accurate.
  3. Remove unsupported metrics and claims copied from the vacancy.
  4. Check the final layout and follow the employer’s requested file format.
